Meet 'The Language and Music of the Wolves'.

An art meets biology and ecology project. Created in 1977 and narrated by Robert Redford, the album was both a spoken-word and natural history audio release.

A Side is titled "The Wolf You Never Knew," featuring a script narrated by Redford to dispel myths about wolf behaviour.

B Side is titled "Sounds of the Wolf," featuring unedited field recordings of actual wolf vocalizations and howls.

The record was created to accompany a groundbreaking feature article titled "Wolf Music," written by John Theberge, and published in the April 1971 issue of Natural History Magazine. Theberge spent several summers tracking and recording wolves in Ontario's Algonquin Provincial Park. His written piece analyzed how wolves use howls for social structure, mapping out the precise acoustic differences when wolves are lonely, trying to assemble the pack, or mourning lost pups.

The narration delivered by Robert Redford was an original script written by Ron Holland. Holland adapted the scientific findings from Theberge and other wolf experts into a narrative aimed at debunking common fairy-tale myths. The script argued passionately against the widespread hunting and poisoning of wolves, famously stating that you could live in a wolf's habitat for years and never see one because they are so naturally elusive.

Meet Nils Frahm - A pianist and composer from Berlin

Unfolding at an unhurried, meditative pace in a celebration of tone, timbre and texture – and thus of sound itself – Music For Animals offers an unusually immersive experience. “My constant inspiration,” Nils explains, “was something as mesmerising as watching a great waterfall or the leaves on a tree in a storm. It’s good we have symphonies and music where there’s a development, but a waterfall doesn’t need an Act 1, 2, 3, then an outcome, and nor do the leaves on a tree in a storm. Some people like watching the leaves rustle and the branches move. This record is for them”. (- taken from Nils' website).

July's Wildlife Organization

Meet Pacific Wild

Pacific Wild's goal is to stop the wolf cull and #SaveBCWolves. We work to resist ongoing efforts to escalate the persecution of wolves across the province. Together, we can stop the kill program and ensure wolves are given the protection and respect they deserve as apex predators and ecosystem engineers.

Every month we support a different wildlife organization that is aligned with the animal theme of the print club. This month we donated $23 to Pacific Wild. Thank you for being a part of this.
