Meet the Artist
To hear something asks very little of us. To listen places our entire being on notice.
-Terry Tempest Williams
Artist. Counsellor. Mountain Dweller. Animal lover. Believer in magic.
I create bold, colourful wildlife paintings that explore our relationship with the natural world through memory, observation, and moments of connection. Working primarily in acrylic, I build my paintings through layers and glazes, creating depth and detail that reveal quiet conversations up close. I use beauty as a doorway into more nuanced conversations around ecological grief and our relationship with the more-than-human world. Through colour, composition and spaciousness, I also aim to create a sense of calm.
Growing up in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley, I spent much of my time outdoors among the hills, lakes, and grasslands. Encounters with hawks, deer, owls, bears, coyotes, and countless smaller creatures were a regular part of life. The sense of peace and connection I experienced in those landscapes, as well as their colour palette, continues to inform my work today. I currently live and create in the West Kootenay region, where I spend much of my time hiking and exploring the area's lakes, rivers, and alpine environments.
My work straddles the border between realistic and illustrative. It often incorporates elements of geometry, pattern, whimsy and other-worldliness. At the same time, I include realistic details and references to local plants and landscapes that support the storytelling within each piece.
Animals are a central part of my work, offering a way to explore presence, instinct, and relationship without relying on narrative. They have taught me the power of authentically being oneself.
Alongside my visual art practice, my background in psychology and counselling informs how I approach process and attention. I am interested in how we form relationships—to place, to ourselves, and to the natural world—and how art can support or rewire that awareness.

”My partner and I purchased an original piece of (Stephanie's), which we love so much. It hangs over our bed and we see it everyday.
We've collected a couple other pieces over the past few years, and I just ordered a small print that is going to be the flip-side of my letter to him on our wedding day this summer...."
